The Berlin Security Conference is one of the largest European security and defence policy events. The completely independent
international congress and exhibition, held every autumn since 2001 in Berlin, draws more than 1,000 participants
from Europe and the rest of the world, the European institutions in Brussels and Strasbourg and NATO. The 10th Berlin
Security Conference will take place at the andel's Hotel & Convention Center Berlin on 08 and 09 November 2011.

European security and defence
The Berlin Security Conference is a forum aimed at promoting a common European security and defence policy. It focuses
on issues before the European Parliament, the Commission and the Council as well as national parliaments and ministries.
The emphasis is on proposing and discussing concrete solutions aimed at improving European and Transatlantic political,
operational and tactical cooperation. The goal is to develop ways to mitigate friction due to insufficient capabilities, inadequate
standardisation, lack of interoperability, differing support for military personnel and national restrictions.
Transatlantic cooperation
Security in Europe must be ensured by cooperating closely with the United States while taking Russia’s requirements
into account. Transatlantic cooperation and future security structures will therefore be a central focus of the conference.
In this connection, the search for solutions for Afghanistan has been a priority topic for many years.

Supporting NATO in the next decade
AFCEA is well-placed, through its wide-ranging membership and corporate supporters, to make a valued contribution to the work of NATO, especially the NATO C3 Agency. AFCEA has already run events at the request of NATO Commands and NATO Agencies and this is a relationship that can be usefully developed over the coming years.
TechNet International is being held in conjunction with the NATO C3 Agency’s annual Industry Conference that is taking place on 19 October and in the first part of the morning on 20 October. Both events will provide an opportunity for NATO and industry representatives as well as those from Government and Academia to share ideas for supporting NATO’s transformation to meet today’s operational challenges.
One of the ways to “Support NATO in the Next Decade” is to identify emerging technologies and new opportunities for cooperation between the Alliance, its member states and industry. So TechNet International will pay special attention to the technology and its applications, including the magnificent world of "Virtual Reality". It will be both a technological and a psychological examination and thus derive applications in both our personal worlds and the defence environment – the border will be an interesting place to examine!

Luciad participates in the speaking slot on August 30, 2011 together with the FAA. During this presentation, we will discuss the history and future of the AIXM Viewer that was developed specifically for the FAA, for the portrayal of AIXM 5 aeronautical data.
In addition, throughout the event, Luciad will be showcasing the SAA Pilot application built with LuciadMap; our flagship product for building aeronautical information systems with class leading graphical display capabilities.

National Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) planning workshop
The objective of this National Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) planning workshop is to improve each attending State's ability to support their Governors and Citizens through pre-identified and coordinated mutual aid agreements in the event of a major hurricane impact or other major disaster in 2010. The workshop will focus on the challenges posed by the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Luciad will demonstrate LuciadMap, its number one visualization and graphical analysis solution for Emergency Response and Disaster Recovery operations. LuciadMap provides complete, accurate and up-to-date Situational Awareness which forms a critical foundation for timely and cost-effective decision-making in EMAC operations.
Luciad will also present LuciadFusion, the new data fusion platform for managing, fusing, and serving massive data streams from multiple sources into one combined operating picture, readily available in multiple end-user applications to first responders, government officials, environmental experts, and others.

Aeronautical Information and Weather Information Exchange Models
The US FAA is hosting the second Aeronautical Information Exchange Model (AIXM)/Weather Information Exchange Model (WXXM) Conference. Aimed at AIXM/MET developers and aeronautical information experts, the conference will focus on AIXM and MET information Exchange and Graphical Visualization and Common Situational Awareness.
At the conference, Luciad will share its experiences in developing next generation software tools for the high performance handling (decoding, encoding and editing) and visualization of AIXM 5.1 based aeronautical data. From the OGC OWS-7 research project, Luciad will demonstrate its support for AIXM and WXXM via an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) which provides pilots with a dynamic Common Operational Picture.

Luciad will be showcasing its latest techology on the Mission Planning Users Conference (booth 421). MPUC promotes information exchange, training, and innovation for the Mission Planning community to include developers, users, sustainment, and acquisition representatives. MPUC 2010 includes a 4-star keynote address and flag officers from the joint and coalition community.
