BASF Antwerp, located to the North of the Port of Antwerp, is the largest chemical complex in Belgium. Managing the facilities on its 600 ha site is a complex and challenging task.

BASF Antwerp has been using Bentley Microstation for years to design, draw and maintain the installations on its plant. The system holds
thousands of Microstation DGN drawings, together with essential additional information stored in relational databases. Constructors, maintenance workers, intervention teams and building contractors all use the services of the CAD division to obtain up-to-date drawings essential for their work.
Until recently, all drawings were produced by CAD experts with Bentley Microstation. This disrupted the normal work of the CAD experts and there was often a delay between the request of a drawing and the production of it.

Today, BASF Antwerp uses LuciadiCAD™ to make the CAD data on-line available throughout its entire organization. More than thousand computers connected to the BASF network can access, view and print CAD drawings using a simple-to-use interactive Web interface.

BASF Antwerp chose LuciadiCAD® over other solutions for a number of reasons:

  • The scalability to any number of end-users, without requiring additional Bentley Microstation server licenses.
  • The ability to combine multiple levels of different DGN files into a single drawing.
  • The possibility to customize the definition of themes and symbolization.
  • The high-performance and interactive webinterface.
  • The interactive preview capability to produce scaled prints.
