is not a CAD system. LuciadiCAD™
is a Web interface capable of accessing the information in existing CAD
systems. Its purpose is not to replace the advanced drawing capabilities
of today's CAD systems. LuciadiCAD™
is a high-performance, interactive intranet solution to make CAD data
available throughout your corporate intranet and extranet.

Do
we need to install expensive server software for LuciadiCAD™
?
LuciadiCAD™
requires a standard Web server. If no Web server is available in the organization,
we recommend a Linux based Apache Web server, whose open source software
is at no cost. LuciadiCAD™
has a server component that runs on the Web server inside a servlet engine.
As servlet engine, we recommend Jakarta Tomcat, which is available at
no cost.

Do
we need additional CAD servers to operate LuciadiCAD™
?
No, LuciadiCAD™
does not depend on a proprietary CAD system. It directly accesses the
CAD files stored on one or more file servers in the network. This capability
of LuciadiCAD™ is a large
cost saver as it does not require the purchase of additional CAD system
licenses.

Can
LuciadiCAD™ change CAD
data on the CAD file servers ?
It is not possible to change your CAD data through
the LuciadiCAD™ Web interface.
LuciadiCAD™ provides read-only
access and visualization of CAD data.

Can LuciadiCAD™
run on a standalone computer ?
LuciadiCAD™ can be configured
to run on a standalone computer. In that case, CAD files are read from
a local hard disk or a CD ROM.

Does
LuciadiCAD™ work with AutoCAD
DWG files ?
LuciadiCAD™
is independent of a particular CAD system. However, LuciadiCAD™
V1.0 comes only with a decoder for Bentley Microstation DGN files. The
decoder for AutoCAD DWG is currently under development and will be available
in the next release of LuciadiCAD™.
LuciadiCAD™ will then be
capable of combining CAD data from Bentley Microstation and AutoCAD into
a single Web view.

Can I access database information linked to the CAD data ?
Yes, you can graphically select CAD geometries and LuciadiCAD™
will retrieve the associated database information on-line.

Will
LuciadiCAD™ not saturate
our corporate network ?
LuciadiCAD™
is economical with bandwith. LuciadiCAD™
does not continuously send bitmaps whenever the user pans or zooms the
view. Instead, vector files are transferred from the server to the client.
LuciadiCAD™ uses data-on-demand
and local caching techniques to limit bandwidth utilization to a minimum.

Can
anyone in the organization get access to all CAD data without restrictions
?
LuciadiCAD™
can restrict access to CAD data by using access privileges. LuciadiCAD™
authenticates users via secure protocols that are supported by Web servers such as Apache and Microsoft Internet Information Server.

Can LuciadiCAD™ display different drawings together ?
LuciadiCAD™
combines different levels of multiple drawings into one logical theme
of data. The data in a theme is viewed and dynamically symbolized. As
the user pans the view to another area, the required CAD files are loaded
on-demand and seamlessly put together.

I
have an Epson Stylus Color 7000 plotter. Will LuciadiCAD™
plot A1 drawings?
LuciadiCAD™
will print and plot on most printing devices in your network. However,
LuciadiCAD™ is dependent
on native printer drivers of the client's machine for the given peripheral
device. Occassionaly, LuciadiCAD™
will not print properly on some printers and plotters, in which case this
problem can be solved by installing another printer driver.
