Situation
For years, utility providers, chemical plants and oil companies have used Bentley Microstation to support the management of thousands of pipelines, cables, conduits and valves.
Dedicated CAD systems centralize all data into a server, which is only accessible through dedictated workstations operated by CAD experts. When users from other divisions require drawings, the CAD experts must interrupt their work in order to provide the data. Or, extra seats must be deployed, incurring additional costs, both in hardware and software and in training.
Typically, users need to interpret multiple drawings to obtain information for a given task. LuciadiCAD™ extracts all relevant data from diverse drawings. The data is then re-symbolized and merged into a single, coherent view. This way, LuciadiCAD™ for DGN provides every user on the corporate network with the capability to access, view and plot DGN data using a popular Web browser.
High performance, interactive Web interface
LuciadiCAD™ is a browser-based interface that enables users to access their organization's Microstation data. The interface assembles data drawn from multiple levels of different DGN files into suitable themes such as electricity, water supply, etc. If necessary, LuciadiCAD™ can symbolize each theme differently.
LuciadiCAD™'s interactive preview feature controls the production of scaled prints, making it possible for users to chart with multiple plotting options and on different paper sizes.
LuciadiCAD™ topographically interprets CAD data in different coordinate systems, combines them with topographic raster maps, and displays data in the coordinate system of the user's choice, including Lambert72, RD1918, Gauss-Krüger, and French Lambert.
Access to native CAD files
LuciadiCAD™ delivers direct access to users' CAD files stored on their Microstation file servers. The application manages simultaneous access to Microstation file servers, multiple databases and geo-referenced GeoTIFF raster images. It supports two- and three-dimensional DGN data, symbolization, advanced cell handling and user-defined fonts.

LuciadiCAD™'s versatility means that users no longer have to pay for transforming, storing and maintaining converted data. Meanwhile, the application's accessibility ensures that current data are available online anywhere, anytime.

Beyond a simple Web Viewer
LuciadiCAD™ is much more than a simple Web viewer. By customizing theme definition, LuciadiCAD™ ensures that users do not have to consult multiple drawings in order to obtain information.

LuciadiCAD™ pulls data from localized and geographically dispersed drawings. It then combines and symbolizes data into one theme that covers the full extent of all images.

Cost-effective operation
Whether you run LuciadiCAD™ in a Web browser or on a standalone computer, LuciadiCAD™ can be installed and operated at minimal cost.
LuciadiCAD™ is simply a Java applet that runs inside a Web browser, it does not require any manual software installation. A standard Web server provides both the LuciadiCAD™ applet and data.
LuciadiCAD™ can also run on a computer that is not connected to any network. A notebook or pen computer running LuciadiCAD™ enables users to access locally stored DGN files and database data. This option is particularly beneficial for mobile intervention teams, such as firefighters and paramedics.
Security and authentication
In order to ensure its authenticity, LuciadiCAD™ is distributed as a signed applet over an organization's intranet. To make certain that only authorized users can view or alter DGN data, administrators can restrict access by implementing access privileges. LuciadiCAD™ authenticates users via secure protocols that are supported by Web servers such as Apache and Microsoft's Internet Information Server.
Fully configurable
A user-friendly configuration tool enables administrators to define themes, user interface layout, database access definition, symbol assignment, access control with password protection, tooltip annotation and more.
